Slowing Down the Pace
Going from Daily posts to Weekly posts
After a couple of months of posting stories daily, I need to slow down. I knew that would happen, because when I posted on OF, the same thing happened. I tried to post daily, but I have a mundane job, and writing creative stories, even “smut” takes time.
If I had been more thoughtful, I would have started off weekly, and only added more posts per week when I thought it was needed. On OF, to fill the week, I would re-post stories Saturday through Thursday and post new stories every Friday. That gave me enough time to create new tales, edit, and make any needed changes before posting.
If I didn’t have a full time job, I would write more stories, but like many of you, working a 40-week at a job, caring for family members, and taking care of other responsibilities, cuts in to writing time.
As I said, if I had truly been thoughtful about it, back in June when I posted my first stories on the site, I would have set up a schedule similar to what I did on OF, and posted every Friday.
Going forward, I think that the every Friday, might work best for me again. Lessons that I have to keep learning, even though they are lessons that I tell my co-workers all the time:
- Set a realistic schedule: Having a schedule is good, and useful, but setting a schedule that you can’t meet in reality, creates stress. Don’t put unnecessary stress on yourself.
- Remind yourself why you are doing it: Unlike my mundane job, which I need so I can pay my bills and care for my family, writing and posting is a creative outlet for my ideas and thoughts. Making money from it is nice, and in the current economy, helpful. But that isn’t the goal. The goal is to write and share ideas, or in the case of my smutty stories, fantasies.
- Be flexible to change: More than once, I had a draft version of a story that I wanted to post, but I knew it wasn’t ready, so I quickly posted a different one. When working on a longer story or story-line, it is okay to meet your deadline of weekly new posts with a different short story. I did that more than a few times on OF, where a I had a detailed story that needed more time to be finished without being rushed, so instead would quickly write a “couple’s tale”, or take an existing story and gender swap the characters, which would give it a different tone. That allowed me to then go back and finish the more detailed story.
Bottom line, this is supposed to be fun and at times relaxing. If it is no longer fun, then I’ll stop. I enjoy it, I enjoy the comments and ideas from other creators. (I have some ideas for AAA Detective agency, because of readers comments.) So, instead of Daily posts, look for Weekly Tales. I will continue submitting stories to Erotic Desires too, when I think they fit.
